WCC Hosts Annual 9/11 Stair Climb (PHOTOS)

In a physically and emotionally grueling annual undertaking, students and former students from the Basic Law Enforcement, Firefighting and EMT programs at Wayne Community College climbed 78 flights of stairs at the college’s Goldsboro campus Wednesday.

Beverly Deans, the Dean of Public Safety at WCC, says the 78 flights of stairs represent how far emergency responders reached before the World Trade Centers collapsed on 9/11.

Deans adds first responders also must remember that they may be asked to put their lives on the line for others at any time.

WCC’s annual 9/11 Stair Climb honors the over 400 public safety personnel – 343 New York City Fire Department firefighters,23 New York City Police Department officers, and 37 Port Authority Police Department officer—who died in the line of duty while trying to help those inside the World Trade Center on September 11th.
