Chamber Hosts Annual Ag Luncheon (PHOTOS)

Agriculture is big business in Wayne County, generating over $1 billion for the local economy.

The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce held its annual Agriculture Luncheon on Wednesday at the Maxwell Center, taking time to recognize the leading industry in Wayne County.

The keynote speaker for Wednesday’s Ag Luncheon was Dr. Michael Walden from the Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics at North Carolina State University.

He says North Carolina Agriculture produced almost $92 billion in economic activity for the state in 2017.

Walden talked about the importance role of advancing technology in today’s agriculture industry.

Walden also mentioned one forthcoming challenge to farming will be transportation.

During the Ag Luncheon, West Family Farms of Fremont was named the Agriculture Producer of the Year, and Marlowe Vaughan was named the Agriculture Advocate of the Year.
