Suspects Arrested In La Grange Robbery, Assault Case

Two people are charged in connection the severe assault of an elderly La Grange resident. On October 27th, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office began the investigation into the attempted murder of an 83-year-old male after the victim was violently assaulted during a break-in at his home.  The suspect stole the victim’s vehicle, and the vehicle was recovered in Goldsboro.

The Goldsboro Police Department arrested a person for a separate crime in the area the stolen vehicle was located.  Lenoir County Sheriff’s detectives followed up on that arrest and, thanks to camera footage and identified stolen property, were able to link that suspect to the La Grange crimes.

On Wednesday, 29-year-old Anthony R. Dawson of La Grange was charged with Attempted Murder, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Felony Larceny, and Felony Possession of Stolen Goods.  He was already in custody at the Wayne County Detention Center.  Dawson received a $500,000 secured bond for the new charges.

The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office says evidence shows Kayla Massey assisted Dawson following the attempted murder.  Massey has been charged with Accessory after the Fact-Attempted Murder.  She was arrested and held at the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Detention Center under a $65,000 secured bond.
