Church Break-In Suspect Faces 23 New Charges

New charges are filed against the suspect believed to be responsible for a series of break-ins to local churches. The Goldsboro Police Department has announced 27-year-old Devin C. Singleton of Goldsboro now faces 23 new charges, including seven counts of Breaking and Entering a Place of Worship.  He received an additional bond of $100,000 for the new charges.  Singleton had already been identified as a suspect in several church B&E’s when police caught him in the midst of a break-in at Branch Memorial Tabernacle Church on January 29th.

7 Counts of Break and Enter a Place of Worship,
5 Counts of Larceny After Break and Enter,
5 Counts of Possession of Stolen Goods,
6 Counts of Injury to Real Property
BOND: $100,000

The reported Breaking and Enterings to Places of Worship include:

  • First African Baptist Church. 803 Harris St. Report filed 1-3-20. Approximately $2,500.00 in damages to the property, Items being removed (TV and Unknown other items) , and a credit card that was later found to be missing and used.
  • St. Andrews Episcopal Church. 901 Harris St. Report filed 1/13/20. Approximately $35.00 in damages to a safe and knife sharpener.
  • St. Andrews Episcopal Church. 901 Harris St. Report Filed 1/8/20. Approximately $200.00 in damages. A projector, Portable CD player, and $90.00 in US Currency was taken. Entry was made through a north side kitchen window.
  • New Stoney Hill United Holy Church. 1003 Popular St. Report filed 1/4/20. Approximately $2,900.00 in damages reported. $200.00 in US Currency was taken from a safe. A blue hammer was also taken. A watch suspected of belonging to the suspect was located during the clean up.
  • New St. John AME Church 1307 S. Slocumb St. 12/29/19, Church was broken into, a leaf blower and cleaning supplies were taken. Approximately $200.00 in damages. Entry made by breaking out a rear storage window.
  • Branch Memorial Tabernacle Church. 500 Gulley St. 12/16/19 ,Church was broken into on the south side of the building by kicking in a piece of plywood and entering. A Samsung Tablet was taken and a cell phone. The Cell phone was found on the ground after it had been dropped by suspect(s) Also approximately $250.00 in damages
  • Branch Memorial Tabernacle Church. 506 Gulley St. 12/17/19 ,Church was broken into on the south side of the building by kicking in a piece of plywood and entering. No items were reported missing on this report. Approximately $70.00 in damages.
