Mount Olive Fire Department and EMS were dispatched to the scene of this 18-wheeler accident late Saturday afternoon on U.S. 117 just past Old Smith Chapel Road in the southbound lanes. Luckily, there wasn’t any other vehicle involved. The semi was heading south when the driver ran off the right side of the road.  The vehicle went down the embankment, slammed into a light pole and then finally came to a stop on the shoulder of the highway. The accident is under investigation by the State Highway Patrol.
