Candidate Forum to be Held at Maxwell Center

Goldsboro residents will have two opportunities to hear from candidates vying for local political offices in the Nov. 7 general election.

The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a pair of candidate forums Oct. 18-19 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 each evening at the Maxwell Center. Both candidate forums are free and open to the public.

The forum on Oct. 18 will feature candidates running for Goldsboro City Council seats in Districts 1-3, as well as mayoral candidates Charles Gaylor and Raymond Smith Jr. On the evening of Oct. 19, those in attendance will hear from candidates contending for city council seats in districts 4-6, as well as Gaylor and Smith.

Hiawatha Jones and Yvonnia Moore are the candidates contending for District 1, while Chris Boyette and Kai Butt are in contention for District 2. Jamie Taylor and Myelle Thompson are in the District 3 race.

Sadie Baldwin Simmons and Brandi Matthews are the candidates in the District 4 race, while Beverly Weeks and Phyllis Merritt-James are seeking the District 5 seat. The District 6 election is being contested between Roderick White and Steve Taylor.
