Wayne County Junior Livestock Show & Sale

Wayne County Junior Livestock Show & Sale

The Wayne County Junior Livestock Show & Sale is scheduled for Thursday, April 13, 2023 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds. Sponsored by the Wayne County Livestock Development Association (WCLDA) and Wayne County Cooperative Extension, this project gives youth in our community an opportunity to develop basic skills in selection, management, exhibition, and marketing of animals. There are 45 youth participating in this year’s project. They will be showing their animals in the morning. Hog Show starts at 9 AM, Goat Show is at 11 AM and the Cattle Show is at 11:30 AM. Admission is free to the event.

The animals will be sold at auction that night and the sale will begin at 5:30 PM. The youth participating will receive their auction price and the support price bid for their animal. They will also receive premiums for their placement in the shows from the morning.

Preceding the Youth Auction, we will have a special “Showing With the Stars Auction.” Five local leaders will show a hog in the ring. These “stars” will raise money that will be distributed amongst all the youth participating.

The “star” who raises the most money will be awarded the Boss Hog Trophy. Local leaders participating are: Julie Beck, President of the Mt Olive Chamber of Commerce, Jacqueline Kannan, Director of Wayne Memorial Hospital Foundation, Dr. Patty Pfeiffer, President of Wayne Community College, Reding Pittman, Mortgage Loan Officer with Truist Bank, and Scott Satterfield, President of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce.

Come out and enjoy a fun event while supporting our youth.
