Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) students will soon spread holiday cheer through festive songs and melodies at the annual district-wide Choral Showcase, with performances spanning over three nights (November 19, 20 and 21) at Goldsboro High School.

This is the nineteenth year for the annual holiday showcase. The showcase first began in 2001 with 12 schools participating. This year the showcase will have 29 schools.

Director Specialist, Kim Copeland, who has helped oversee the coordination of the Choral Showcase for a number of years believes the event is one that the schools, the community, and the organizers behind the scenes look forward to each year.

“Our students and music directors have been working for several weeks preparing for their special night in order to lead audience members into a time of seasonal cheer through their songs,” states Ms. Copeland who is retiring at the end of December. “After 38 years serving in public education, I remain excited to be a part of this annual event. It has been a highlight of my career to work with the district’s lead music teachers to help showcase the musical talents of our students through events like the Choral Showcase.”

The schedule for the participating schools is as follows:

Wednesday, November 20: Brogden Middle, Brogden Primary, Carver Elementary, Grantham Elementary, Grantham Middle, Mount Olive Middle, Southern Wayne High, Spring Creek Elementary, Spring Creek High, and Spring Creek Middle.

Thursday, November 21: Charles B. Aycock High, Fremont STARS Elementary, Northeast Elementary, Northwest Elementary, Norwayne Middle, Rosewood Elementary, Rosewood High, and Rosewood Middle.

Parents of participating students have designated parking areas. Parents of elementary choral students need to use the Beech Street parking lot. Parents of middle and high school choral students need to use the Herman Street parking lots. Community members and other visitors are welcome to use any of the Goldsboro High parking lots.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the programs will begin at 6:30 p.m. each night. Guests need to use the side entrance along Beech Street closest to the Goldsboro High main office. Admission is $5.00 for each person, and all proceeds will benefit the choral programs at the participating schools. Children under five years old are admitted free of charge.
