SCHOOL & BUSINESS CLOSINGS, DELAYS & CANCELLATIONS


SCHOOLS


ALL NORTH CAROLINA PUBLIC SCHOOLS CLOSED:  All NC K-12 public schools closed until at least May 15th. WAYNE COUNTY DETAILS

WAYNE COUNTY SCHOOLS STUDENT MEALS: During the closure due to COVID-19, Wayne County Public Schools will still provide meals for all students. MORE

WAYNE COMMUNITY COLLEGE: As of March 23, 2020, some members of the Wayne Community College community have come forward and provided notice that they have been advised by local health officials to self-quarantine. As of today, we have no presumed or confirmed COVID-19 positive results in the College community, but feel it is proper to issue this notice as a precaution. Neither WCC, nor public health authorities, will identify any individuals who have been told to self-quarantine, undergone testing, or tested positive for the virus, nor will information be provided that may compromise confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) for students and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) for employees.  When Wayne Community College’s classes resume on Monday, March 23, most will be online, based in Moodle. Before then, students should receive messages from all of their instructors, in Moodle or by email, with details on how their classes will continue.  MORE DETAILS

UNIVERSITY OF MT. OLIVE:  Campus closed effective at 5 PM on Friday, March 13, 2020 for all traditional students. All spring athletics will be suspended for the remainder of the year. This includes practices and competitions. Provisions will be made in those unique incidents where students need to remain on campus for an extended period. International Students should contact Student Affairs immediately to receive assistance with travel arrangements. Residence Hall students will receive an email regarding the checkout process. ALL courses will be administered in an online format for the remainder of the semester. A decision on graduation ceremonies and other such events will be made as updates and mandates are provided on the COVID-19 Virus.  MORE DETAILS

JAMES SPRUNT COMMUNITY COLLEGE: James Sprunt Community College will be adopting the following changes effective March 23. 100% online courses will continue as scheduled. Most face-to-face classes will transition to an online format beginning March 23 until further notice. Students in a face-to-face lab, work-based learning, and clinical instruction should check their email for clarification on the status of their classes. All college-sponsored events, activities, and services have been cancelled until further notice. ​ These changes will impact students, faculty, and staff, and all parties involved are asked to continue to check their email for specific details on these changes.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF WAYNE COUNTY is closed for members beginning Monday, March 16th, for the next two weeks or as long as our local school districts remain closed. . This includes all three Club sites here in Wayne County.

YMCA: Suspending all youth programs beginning March 16 through at least Friday, March 27. Suspended Y youth programs include:

• After School (Arrow Academy)
• Youth Sports and Swim Lessons
• Family Programs and Events
• Drop-in childcare and Y Clubhouse
• Preschool

LENOIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Lenoir Community College understands this is an uncertain time for everyone. In an effort to afford you with the opportunity to continue your education and complete your courses, we will be transitioning a large portion of our curriculum seated courses (TR, WB, and HY Formats) to an online format in Moodle for the spring 2020 semester, effective March 30. Your instructor will be contacting you regarding your classes. Courses that were already being delivered in an online format this semester (IN, LIN) will resume March 23. Students in these courses will be permitted to make up missed time online with specific details from your instructor in Moodle. LCC continues to closely monitor the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), of which there are no identified cases on any of our campuses.  MORE DETAILS

WAGES MEALS ON WHEELS:  Suspending all Wayne County routes for at least 2 weeks.

CITY OF GOLDSBORO:  The following meetings have been cancelled:

• Mayor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities — March 19, 2020
• GWTA Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) — March 19, 2020
• Commission on Community Relations and Development – March 31, 2020

GOLDSBORO PARKS & REC: Playgrounds, courts and fields are closed TFN.  Parks and Greenways remain open.  MORE

TOWN OF MOUNT OLIVE:  Closing Town Hall temporarily.  All Mount Olive Parks and Recreation parks facilities, playgrounds and restrooms are closed.  DETAILS.

PARAMOUNT THEATRE:  Postponing all public performances until further notice. The cancellations will take effect immediately and run through April 18; a determination will be made within two weeks’ time about extending that date. MORE

WAYNE CO. PUBLIC LIBRARY & SEEGARS SENIOR CTR: Closed until further notice.

NC COURTS: The Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court Cheri Beasley ordered most court cases to be continued for at least 30 days. The exceptions will be limited and will include bond, probate and probable cause hearings, as well as domestic violence hearings.Trials currently underway will continue. Magistrates will still issue arrest warrants and perform marriages.


CHURCHES


FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF GOLDSBORO: All Sunday services are cancelled, but you can listen to a broadcast on WGBR  98.3 FM & 1150 AM beginning at 11 AM.


SEYMOUR JOHNSON AFB


3/25 UPDATE: Health Protection Condition C – In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, SJAFB has changed the Health Protection Condition (HPCON) to Charlie. Wing leadership is assessing the situation to implement adjustments for base personnel and facilities. Airmen and civilian employees are advised to check with their chain of command and supervisors for more information. We will provide updates as soon as they become available.

NEWPORT PIG COOKIN’ CONTEST: Postponed

FREMONT DAFFODIL FESTIVAL:  Cancelled

N.C. HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSN: Suspending all high school athletics statewide and postpone the basketball state championships indefinitely as concerns over the coronavirus grow. The suspension of athletics will be effective at 11:59 p.m. on Friday and last through Apr. 6. It includes all games, practices, workouts, and skill development sessions.

UNITED WAY: FILL THE THEATRE:  Event will not take place at the Paramount March 18th and 19th. We are formulating a new plan for the drive and hope to have those details Monday afternoon.

UNITED WAY VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION EVENT:  The March 30th Volunteer Appreciation Event has been cancelled.   We hope to reschedule for fall or next spring.

THE RIDE AS ONE MOTORCYCLE RIDE & FAMILY DAY: April 4th has been cancelled and rescheduled for Saturday, June 13th.

ARTS COUNCIL: Our Multicultural Music series performance for this Friday night featuring Mavis Swan Poole has been postponed due to safety concerns related to the coronavirus.  We will let you know when her performance is rescheduled.

GOLDSBORO GOLDEN K KIWANIS CLUB: Cancelled all meetings for the month of March.

WAYNE COUNTY BRAIN INJURY SUPPORT GROUP: regular monthly meeting scheduled for 10:00-11:30 Saturday morning is cancelled as the Senior Center is closed on Saturdays until further notice.

2020 WAYNE COUNTY JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SHOW and SALE has been canceled due to coronavirus concerns. The youth have worked hard for months, putting a lot of time, money and effort into these animal projects. BERKELEY MALL: Will temporarily close the mall effective Saturday, March 21st at 7:00 PM. The Mall will remain closed at least through Sunday, March 29th at which time we will re-evaluate this closure with guidance from Federal, State and Local authorities.  Please contact K&W Cafeteria, Jade Express, and Pretzel Twister for their hours of operation.

STARBUCKS: temporarily closed our in-store cafes, but select grocery, retail and drive-thru locations remain open. Starbucks Delivers on Uber Eats is also available in select markets. Visit our store locator for the latest store hours and open locations.

WAYNE COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Will be rescheduling programs and events scheduled to take place over the coming weeks. You will receive notification regarding new dates as they are available.

WAYNE UNC HEALTH CARE:  Enhances visitor policy to include essential visitors only. Updated hospital visitation policy to restrict visitors effective Saturday, March 21st. Hospital access for visitation will be limited to:

  • Patients under the age of 18 are allowed two guardians for duration of stay.
  • Pregnant women under observation or in labor are allowed one support person for duration of stay.
  • Patients at the end of life.
  • Visitors with symptoms of a fever or respiratory illness, including cough or shortness of breath, will not be allowed to enter. Wayne UNC will screen visitors for signs and symptoms of illness.

The patient’s care team and the attending physician will work with families who have special circumstances, such as a critically ill or injured family member, on a case-by-case basis.

LENOIR UNC HEALTH CARE: COVID-19 VISITOR RESTRICTIONS: In an effort to limit the number of visitors and ensure we keep our patients, teammates and community members safe, UNC Health is implementing stricter restrictions for visitors, vendors, volunteers and students. In addition to the restrictions, community events, activities, and meetings hosted at all UNC Health campuses are canceled until further notice.  MORE

DUKE ENERGY:
Will suspend disconnections for the time being due to the COVID-19 coronavirus. In a statement, Duke Energy and its subsidiary Piedmont Natural Gas said they realize many customers may be facing unusual financial hardship. The utility provider says it is suspending disconnection for nonpayment effective immediately, and this applies to all homes in states including North Carolina.

CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS: Will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription at any service level up to 100 Mbps.
