As of Friday, the Wayne County Health Department has received notification of 1,087 total positive cases of COVID-19. 70 of these cases are attributed to congregate living facilities and 548 are cases from outside any type of congregate facility. 469 offenders at Neuse Correctional Institute tested positive for COVID-19, but they have recovered as reported earlier this month by NCDPS. 723 of the 1,087 individuals who tested positive are now considered recovered, leaving an estimated total of 344 cases that are currently active in Wayne County.
The health department received notice of two additional deaths this week. The first individual passed away on May 23, 2020 and was in their mid-seventies with underlying medical conditions. The second individual passed away on May 25, 2020 and was in their mid-seventies with underlying health conditions. Neither of these deaths were attributed to a congregate or long term care facility. The current total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Wayne County is 20.
