Late Thursday, members of the Patetown Fire Department gathered at their station on Patetown Road anxiously waiting for a visit from North Carolina Commissioner of Insurance and State Fire Marshall Mike Causey who would be stopping by to present them with a grant check. Causey presented the check to Patetown Fire Chief John Gardner for over $13,000. During his visit to the station, Causey got a chance to sit down and talk to George Gardner, a life long member of the Patetown Fire Department. Gardner presented a fire department patch to Causey. Causey also had the chance to congratulate Fireman of the Year Bruce Kearney.
