As of Friday, the Wayne County Health Department has received notification of 1,444 total positive cases of COVID-19. 74 of these cases are attributed to congregate living facilities and 901 are cases from outside any type of congregate facility. 469 offenders at Neuse Correctional Institute tested positive for COVID-19, but they have recovered as reported last month by NCDPS. 901 of the 1,444 individuals who tested positive are now considered recovered, leaving an estimated total of 521 cases that are currently active in Wayne County.
The health department received notice of one additional death this week. This individual passed away on June 5, 2020 and was in their early 70s with underlying medical conditions. This death was not attributed to a congregate or long term care facility. The current total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Wayne County is 22.
