August 3, 76,
Elaine Wilkins Martin, 76, went to be with her Lord on Monday, August 3, 2020, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Elaine was born in the small town of Princeton, North Carolina on July 8, 1944, to the late David and Thelma Westbrook Wilkins. She always enjoyed roller skating on the streets of Princeton and later in the skating ring that came to town. Elaine enjoyed school and graduated from Princeton High School. While at Princeton, she made friends easily and was a member of many clubs. Elaine was recognized with the superlative “Most Popular in High School.” She was also crowned Miss Sophomore Class and served as a class officer all four years of high school.
Elaine had worked as a real estate broker for Nadine Hodge Realty in Raleigh and later served as a retail fashion buyer and model for a boutique in Greenville, SC. She retired as the senior buyer for Waukesha Electric in Goldsboro with over 30 years of service. Elaine was the first woman buyer for the company having starting her career as a receptionist.
She always enjoyed traveling and as a young girl she would visit the beach. Elaine has also visited many other exciting cities in the United States with family and friends. The most exciting trip was in Europe when she visited Paris France.
Elaine’s faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was her anchor. Her sincere smile, enthusiastic love of life, and concern for all people endeared her to those she met. She loved everyone, encouraged others, and had abundant energy.
Elaine was a longtime member of Rosewood First Baptist Church in Goldsboro. She was devoted to her church, taught the 4-5 year old class, kept the nursery, and was involved in many activities where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God. Because of her love for the church and her family, she donated a beautiful angel statue for the church gardens in honor of her children and grandchildren. Elaine enjoyed dancing the “Shag”, gardening, and movies. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her precious grandchildren.
Though Elaine accomplished so much and blessed so many people in countless ways, she would probably say her greatest accomplishment surely would be her children and grandchildren. They would tell you that having such a godly, loving, kind, compassionate, strong, yet gentle mother and grandmother was one of the greatest blessings of their lives. She made every visit special and constantly showered her family with love.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 8, 2020 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall of Rosewood First Baptist Church followed by a service celebrating Elaine’s life at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary with Dr. Mike Collier officiating. Interment will be in the Princeton Cemetery.
Elaine is survived by her beloved daughter, Jami Lee Amy and husband Jeremy; son, Jason Martin; grandchildren, Elaina Shea Amy, Jaylee Scott Amy, Dane Martin, Olivia Martin, Brooke Martin and Brayden Martin; and sister, Ercell Peedin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Rabon Wilkins.
