Kinston Police are investigating a pair of weekend shootings, one of which resulted in a death.
The first shooting occurred around 11:30 PM Friday. Kinston Police Officers responded to reports of a subject shot on the 2200 Block of Briarfield Road. Officers arrived on scene and found two subjects lying in the road suffering from gunshot wounds. Both subjects were transported to UNC Lenoir and later transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. One of the victims, 20-year-old Bryce Dixon of Kinston, was pronounced dead at Vidant. The second subject, 24-year-old Javante Dupree of Greenville, was in Stable Condition. KPD Officers are currently following up on information received at the scene.
The second shooting occurred around 4:20 PM on Sunday. The Kinston Police Department responded to Mitchell Wooten Apartments in reference to a call of shots fired. As officers responded, further information was given relaying that a subject was struck in the leg by gunfire. The juvenile subject was transported to UNC-Lenior for treatment. The victim did not sustain life threatening injuries. This case is currently under investigation.
