Around 2:45 AM Wednesday, the Goldsboro Police Department responded to the 700 block of E. Holly St. to investigate shots fired and a subsequent ShotSpotter alert. The responding officers located a victim, 40-year-old Darius Lamar Chestnut, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his face. Chestnut was transported by EMS to Wayne UNC Health Care and he was then airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. His condition was not known at the time of this release.  Investigators with the GPD’s Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Unit responded.  The investigations into the shooting of Chestnut is ongoing.
