Barton Oliver Gool, 73, passed away on Tuesday evening at Wayne UNC Health Care.
A native of Erie, Pennsylvania, Barton proudly served his country as an Artillery Commander with the United States Army. He was a 1964 graduate of Goldsboro High School. Barton was a devout Catholic and was a life-long member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church.
Barton was a true sportsman, most comfortable outdoors, on the water or in the woods. He was a hunter of big and small game and loved walking in the woods and fields with a gun. Barton especially enjoyed a tug on the line when he was out fishing. He will be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to and deep love for his family and his zest and love of life.
The family will greet friends on Monday, November 2, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church. A private interment with military honors will be held at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro.
Barton is survived by his wife, Barbara Williams Gool; children, Eric Matthew Gool and Heather K. Gool; daughters, Ginger Reynolds and husband Tim and Suzanne Powell and husband Kevin. He will be remembered as “Papa Bart” to his grandchildren: Ashley Newell, Emily Paul, Matthew Ardis, Morgan Dixon and Carlie Powell; and great-grandchildren, Fynleigh Paul, Haley Newell and McKinley Newell. He is also survived by his brother, Warren E. Gool; sister, Norma J. Joyner and husband Steve; special nieces, Maria Joyner and Amelia Joyner; and his special k-9 friend, Lindy Lou.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given in his memory to Diamonds in the Ruff, P.O. Box 10033, Goldsboro, NC 27532.
