County Provides Update On Vaccination Effort

As of Wednesday, February 3, the Wayne County Health Department has administered 3,060 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, and has 8,673 individuals on its waiting list. The State of North Carolina has increased their level of communication with local health departments, and has promised an allotment of vaccines every week for the next three weeks. Here is a quick breakdown of how the Wayne County Health Department will be providing vaccines this week and next.

This week, Wayne County is scheduled to administer 600 doses and will be moving its first-dose vaccinations permanently to the former Bussmann Building at 210 Dixie Trail in Goldsboro. Next week, vaccinations will continue at the Bussmann Building and an additional 900 doses are scheduled to be administered. 200 of the doses next week are slated to address gaps in vaccination rates for minority or marginalized populations, as determined by US Census data and NCDHHS.

All vaccinations through the Health Department are by appointment only. Our Vaccine Call Center schedules these appointments, first come, first served, from the waiting list as additional doses arrive.

“Our teammates have been doing an incredible job getting vaccines in arms when we have doses to administer,” said Wayne County Health Director Dr. Brenda Weis. “When we receive a shipment of the vaccine, every dose is given within one week of arriving at our facility. Our promise to the public is that we will continue distributing the COVID-19 vaccine as quickly as possible when we receive additional doses.”

Health Department Medical Director Dr. James Stackhouse added, “Additional vaccine providers are coming online every day, and will be able to provide shots as more inventory is produced and released. This is positive news and we look forward to increases in the supply of vaccine to keep pushing towards our goal of providing a safe vaccine for anyone who is interested in receiving one.”

As we navigate through the ever-changing vaccination phases, the county asks for continued patience and understanding while working to vaccinate residents as quickly as possible with limited doses available. For more information on the COVID-19 vaccine, visit www.waynegov.com/vaccine.
