Emmett Carter, 90, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2021 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Kinston. Born in Wayne County on April 21, 1930, he was the son of the late Emmett M. Carter and Hepsie Smith Carter.

He is survived by his son, Emmett Dwight Carter; grandchildren, Tammy Strickland (Danny), Teresa Grady, and Kelly Haynes (David); great-grandchildren, Mikayla Strickland, Madison Strickland, Kaitlyn Skinner, Kaylie Haynes, and David Haynes; a great-great-granddaughter, Ella Munoz; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Smith Carter and his eight siblings.

Emmett worked at North Carolina State University for 24 years, retiring as a maintenance supervisor. He was a member of Woods Grove Church.

Emmett enjoyed fishing and spending time at the beach.

Private services will be held by the graveside at Wayne Memorial Park.
