Wilber Shirley left this world to be with Jesus on Monday morning. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Margie B. Shirley. Wilber proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Wilber was a hard-working man, which was the theme of his life, he lived to work. For over 59 years, he owned and operated Wilber’s Barbecue in Goldsboro. Wilber also loved First Free Will Baptist Church and was a dedicated and faithful servant his entire life.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Wilber will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at First Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro with Rev. Dr. Otis E. Hamm officiating. Attendees are asked to wear a face covering and practice social distancing. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. A private committal for the family will be at Wayne Memorial Park.
Wilber is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Trista and Dennis Monk of Goldsboro and Rayne and Davie Caudill of Mount Olive; grandchildren, Brenna Wolfe and husband Adam, Courtney Barnes and husband Jon, Tanner Monk, and Davis Caudill; great-grandchildren, Wesley Wolfe, Allie Gray Barnes, and Declan Monk.
