Sylvia Jean Puryear Jenkins, 73, of Goldsboro, peacefully concluded her earthly pilgrimage Sunday, April 18, 2021 and was welcomed into her Savior’s arms. After a lengthy illness, her final days were at her residence where she was attended by her faithful husband, loving daughter, and Community Hospice.
Sylvia is remembered as a gracious, kind, loving, thoughtful and hard-working lady. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a prayer-warrior until the very end. A member of The Bridge Church, Sylvia participated with the Shekinah Host Prayer team and the Prayer Warriors Ministry team. She dearly loved her family and kept each and every one covered in prayer.
Sylvia attended Vaden/Whitley High School in Wendell and Appalachian State, earning her cosmetology credentials from Mitchell’s Hair Styling Academy. A member of the National Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association and the Zotos Creative Design Group, Sylvia was named a Joseph Weir Scholar. She was also a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Professional Development Course.
Sylvia is survived by the love of her life and husband of 50 years, Edward (Eddie) Earl Jenkins; daughter, Angela Jenkins Grady and husband Michael Lynn Grady, Sr.; five grandchildren, Michael Lynn Grady, Jr. and wife Samantha, Joshua Earl Grady, Kaitlyn Danielle Grady, Zachary Chase Grady, Benjamin Eric Grady; great-grandchildren Hayden Nicole Grady and Laney Alexis Grady; sisters Susan (Danny) P. Cornett and Sharon P. Johnson; nieces Lisa (Ricky) Jones, Brenda Cornett, and April Blisson; many extended cousins and family members, friends who were like family Joe and Debbie Proffitt, and many, many other dear friends, neighbors, co-workers, and church members.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents Thorton Yancey Puryear and Mildred Ruth Puryear, and brother, Marvin Puryear.
The Funeral/Celebration of Life will be Thursday, April 22 at 2 p.m. at The Bridge Church, Princeton, NC. The family will receive friends and family at the church at 1:00 p.m.prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
