Charles Robert Hare, 72, passed away on Sunday afternoon at his home surrounded by his family.

Charles was born in the Grantham community of Wayne County on January 28, 1949 to the late Richard and Mattie Williams Hare. He was married to the late Diane Ellis Hare, who preceded him in death on October 13, 2017.

Along with his wife, Charles owned and operated the family construction business, Hare Construction, and C & D Home Builders. He also owned and operated the family farm operation, Hare Farms. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Family was paramount to Charles, and he loved nothing more than spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Charles also enjoyed the opportunity to go fishing and hunting.

A graveside service to celebrate Charles’ life will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Andy Stovall officiating. The family will greet friends following the service on Saturday and other times at his home.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Rene Hare of Princeton; sons, David Fail and wife Rita of Hampstead and Michael Fail and wife Karin of Four Oaks; and grandchildren, Brooke Bell, Austin Bell and Danielle Fail. He is also survived by his sisters, Evelyn Fail, Clara Lee Nord and Ruby Pate.

In addition to his wife and parents, Charles was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Britt and Dorothy McCullen; and brothers, Paul Hare, Marvin Hare, Richard Hare, Jr. and George Hare.
