Thursday afternoon, students learned how pickles are processed for food as part of last week’s STEAMA camps at the University of Mount Olive. Jason Davis, Ed.D, Assistant Dean for the School of Agriculture and Biological Sciences talked with the students about how the cucumbers are turned into pickles and the different types of spices of that can be used for flavor. UMO’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics, and Agriculture day camps were open for area middle school students that had completed grades 6 – 8.
