North Carolina’s top teacher pays a visit to Wayne County.

Eugenia Floyd, the North Carolina Teacher of the Year, toured Brogden Middle School on Tuesday where she was greeted by students and staff.

During her stop, Floyd met with the WCPS Teacher of the Year, Stephanie Gall, and WCPS Principal of the Year, Dr. Demesha Smith (both from Brogden Middle).

Floyd says this was her first district tour since she was named Teacher of the Year.

Over the next year, Floyd says she is hoping to visit every school district in the state.

As Floyd meets with Wayne County and other North Carolina teachers, she hopes to hear their ideas and concerns and then communicate those through her advisory position on the State Board of Education.

Despite challenges presented to teachers during the pandemic, Floyd says she also found opportunity for growth using new technologies to connect with her students.

Following her stop at Brogden Middle, Floyd was the keynote speaker during Wayne County Public Schools teacher orientation on Tuesday at the School Street Early Learning Center.

Floyd teaches at Mary Scroggs Elementary School in Chapel Hill.
