Wayne County’s newest teachers are given a warm welcome.
Thursday morning, the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce held its annual Teacher Welcome Breakfast at Lane Tree Golf Club to help greet about 75 of the newest educators at Wayne County Public Schools.
Charles Ivey, Chair of the Wayne Education Network, says Wayne County is a family, and the breakfast helps invite the new teachers into that community.
Wayne County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. David Lewis says the welcoming provides a chance to make a great first impression.
Dr. Lewis also says events like the breakfast can help with teacher retention in a competitive market.
Following the breakfast, the new teachers took part in a scavenger hunt at businesses in Downtown Goldsboro.
The new teachers also were informed of the Wayne Education Network’s Golden Rule Program, which provides them with discounts at area retailers.
The Teacher Welcome Breakfast is an annual event put together by the chamber’s Wayne Education Network.
