Gene Jackson, 82, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, surrounded by his family.
Gene was born in Sampson County on April 19, 1939 to the late William Frank Jackson and Pennie Gautier Jackson. He was married to the late Jessie Smith Teachey Jackson. Gene retired from Pate-Dawson Company and later worked with Wal-Mart.
Gene loved to be outside. He spent countless hours tending to his beloved garden and meticulously raking his yard.

Gene is survived by his step-daughter and husband, Sharon and Frank Lane of Goldsboro; sisters, Brenda Scott, Shirley Mills and Linda Quinn and husband Robbie; and brothers, Gerald Jackson and Joseph Jackson and wife Barbara.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his step-son, Ronnie Teachey; and brothers, Otis Jackson, James Jackson, Leslie Jackson and Kenneth Jackson.

A graveside service to celebrate Gene’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27, 2021 at the Smith Family Cemetery with Rev. Bill Rose officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery. Gene will lie in state from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2021 and from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Seymour Funeral Home.
