Just before 9 AM on Wednesday, officers with the Goldsboro Police Department responded to a “shots fired” call initiated by Shot Spotter on the 900 block of Fairview Circle. Officers arrived and located blood and shell casings at the scene. Witnesses reported that an unknown person exited an unknown grey vehicle with a rifle and began shooting at a person in the parking area. The unknown suspect was dressed in all dark clothing with his face covered. After the shooting, the suspect got back into the grey vehicle and fled the area.
While officers were at the scene, they were notified that 25-year-old Tyrik Joyner of Goldsboro, was at the hospital receiving treatment for gunshot wounds he stated he sustained while on Fairview Circle picking up a relative for school. Joyner does not appear to have any life threatening injuries, according to the GPD.
Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division and the Crime Scene Unit responded and initiated a criminal investigation into the shooting. The Goldsboro P.D. says this shooting does not appear to be a random occurrence, and the investigation into this matter continues.
