$20 Million In State Funds Will Help Update Rosewood Middle School

(GDN) — The new state budget includes funds for much-needed updates to a Wayne County school.

A $20 million block grant will come to Wayne County for the replacement or renovation of Rosewood Middle School.

This week, both the Wayne County Board of Commissioners and Board of Education passed a joint resolution thanking the legislators who helped secure the funding.

The resolution recognizes the efforts of Rep. John Bell, Rep. Raymond Smith, and Sen. Jim Perry for their part in getting the funds for Rosewood Middle.

County Manager Craig Honeycutt explains this is a direct allocation to Wayne County for Rosewood Middle for new construction or renovation.

The resolution states Rosewood Middle School was identified as a “Capital Needs Priority.”

Also, the Board of Commissioners and Board of Education “will work to identify additional funding sources to complete the project” should the work exceed the $20 million block grant.

Rosewood Middle was built in the 1920s.
