(GDN) – Goldsboro Police say 20-year-old Iyanla Cherry was taken into custody for an open count of murder. They say it is related to the incident that happened on March 8, 2022. Goldsboro Police responded to the area of 252 Wisteria Road in reference to a person that had been shot. Upon arrival, officers discovered 37-year-old Jeffery Devon Williams suffering from a single gunshot wound. Medical personnel pronounced him dead on the scene. Police say Cherry was later arrested at a traffic stop in the 300 block of North George Street by members of the Goldsboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit. The arrest was without incident. Cherry was confined to the Wayne County Jail without bond. Her first appearance was scheduled for March 21 in District Court.
And Juvenile petitions were secured against a juvenile suspect for an open count of murder in the same incident. Goldsboro Police say the 14-year-old suspect was apprehended at the intersection of North George and Pearson streets by members of the Goldsboro Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit. The juvenile was transported to Pitt Regional Juvenile Detention Center under a secure custody order.
