This week, 56 student artists were recognized at the Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) 2021-2022 Visual Arts Awards Program held at the H.V. Brown Hall at the Dillard/Goldsboro Alumni Center.
Christy White, WCPS Title IV Enrichment Facilitator, welcomed the students, parents, and educators in attendance. Georgia Dees, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Wayne County was the keynote speaker. Following her remarks, the award-winning artists were introduced, while Dr. David Lewis (WCPS Superintendent) and Dr. Carol Artis (Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction) presented the student artists with trophies and certificates.
Fourteen students received an Honorable Mention in the Superintendent’s Choice Art Category, nine students were runners-up in the Holiday Card Categories, and one student earned second place in the Lion’s Club Peace Poster Contest.
Southern Wayne High’s Saint Sound, under the direction of Jason Cox, provided the evening’s entertainment. WCPS Testing Coordinator, Justin Bruyer, served as the emcee.
