Dillard Academy recently held a drive-thru graduation ceremony for their 8th grade students. The festivities began with student leaders. Jessica Zelaya gave words of welcome, Zakiya Rogers led the Pledge of Allegiance and Juelz Smith led the recitation of the Dillard Academy mission.
Next, students and their families pulled up to the blue and yellow decorated dais, where Principal Carole Battle presented the upcoming ninth graders with their middle school completion certificates and a gift bag from the school, while Assistant Principal Alan WIlliams announced the students and which Wayne County high school each student plans to attend.
Special Recognition trophies went to Jessica Zelaya (highest average), Ny’Twan Faire (second highest average), Juelz Smith (most improved) and Devonte’ McCoy (longevity award for attending Dillard Academy for ten years, since Preschool). Principal’s Award recipients Natalya Murchison, Naeem Longmire, Akil Parker and Jessica Zelaya received medals.
7th grade marshals, Cameron Bell and Zamyah Hall, distributed programs to all staff, families and guests. Special guests in attendance included Wayne County Commissioners, Bevan Foster and Antonio Williams, Dillard Academy Board Chair, Pastor Janet Ward, and representatives from various community partners. Afterward, graduates were invited to take pictures outside amongst the decorations at the front of the school.
