First-Degree Statutory Sex Offense

On May 30, 2022, at 8 p.m., officers from the Goldsboro Police Department “B” shift responded to a possible sexual assault on Sawgrass Place in Goldsboro. A 29-year-old Seymour Johnson Air Force Base (SJAFB) enlisted airman was alleged to have sexually assaulted a 6-year-old victim. 

On June 16, after further investigation by the Goldsboro Police Department Criminal Investigations Division, a suspect was developed, and a warrant for arrest was issued on Brandon Tyler Thomas, 29 of Kinston, for one count of First-Degree Statutory Sex Offense.

At 9:54 a.m., Mr. Thomas was taken into custody at the Security Forces complex at SJAFB, 1100 Guardian Road, by investigators with the Goldsboro Police Department Criminal Investigations Division and deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of USAF Office of Special Investigations special agents.

Mr. Thomas’ arrest was without incident. He was confined to the Wayne County Jail under a $350,000 secured bond and given a first appearance for June 17.
