Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Wayne County Health Department has been a leader in providing free testing and vaccinations to residents across the area. With tests and vaccines readily available through providers in the community, and the demand at our annex diminishing, the Health Department will begin downsizing COVID-19 operations at our Grantham Street annex in the Little River Shopping Center.

Beginning Monday, June 20, vaccines and testing will transition to a 3-day schedule on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Hours of operation at the annex will remain the same from 8:15-11:45 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. Appointments are available at www.waynegov.com, but walk-ins are accepted as well. This schedule will continue until Thursday, July 28.

On August 1, the Health Department will no longer offer community testing but will continue to offer vaccines at the main Health Department facility on Herman Street in Goldsboro by appointment only.

“I am extremely proud of the work that our COVID-19 team has accomplished,” said Dr. Brenda Weiss, health director. “This operation would not have been possible without a dedicated team of partners, support staff, Wayne County EMS, and nursing staff. With vaccines and testing being available everywhere, we can slowly and safely transition our focus and staffing back to our regular public health programs.”

If you are in need of free COVID-19 testing, residents are reminded that every home in the U.S. is eligible to order free at-home test kits from covid.gov. In addition to this federal resource, NCDHHS has partnered with Labcorp to provide free at-home test kits to North Carolinians by visiting covid19.ncdhhs.gov.
