On June 16, 2022, at approximately 11:11 a.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 900 block of Hugh Street. When officers arrived, they found a 3-year-old child in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. The child was taken to Wayne UNC Health Care and was subsequently transported to Vidant Medical Center for treatment. The child’s condition is listed as critical and stable.
Members of the Goldsboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, to include investigators, Crime Scene Unit personnel, Support Services personnel, as well as A-Shift patrol officers responded to the scene. An investigation into the incident was initiated.
Preliminary investigation revealed that at the time of the shooting, the child was in a vehicle driven by the parents, Monquize Davis and Juaneneshia Armstrong on Slocumb Street. The shooter was in a separate vehicle and shot from their vehicle into the victim’s vehicle. The child was the only person struck by gunfire. Neither parent was injured.
The Goldsboro Police Department diverted all available resources responding to this shooting. Deputies from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office assisted by answering priority calls for service so that GPD officers could remain on the crime scene and assist with the investigation.
UPDATE: On June 17, as a result of the continued investigation into this incident, warrants were secured on Tyrik Deontre Joyner. At approximately 3:30 p.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the area of U.S. 117 S and W. Ash Street. Mr. Joyner was taken into custody without incident. Mr. Joyner was taken to the Wayne County Magistrate’s Office, where he was served with his warrants. He received a $2,750,000 secured bond. His first appearance is set for June 20 at 1:30 p.m. in District Court.
