On June 20, 2022, at approximately 10:11 a.m., Goldsboro Police Department’s “C” Shift responded to the area of 1501 E. Holly Street in reference to shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers located numerous shell casings in the roadway. While officers were on scene, the Wayne County Communications Center received a call from Wayne UNC Health Care in reference to a gunshot victim that had just arrived.

The victim, identified as Cleveland Ward, 44, of Baltimore, MD, was transported via Life Flight to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville,

Investigators and crime scene specialists with Goldsboro Police Department responded to the scene.

UPDATE: On 06/20/2022, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Cleveland Lavon Ward succumbed to his injuries while at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. The case has shifted to a homicide investigation.
