On June 16, 2022, at approximately 11:11 a.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 900 Block of Hugh Street. When officers arrived, they found a 3-year-old child in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. The child was taken to Wayne UNC Health Care and was subsequently transported to Vidant Medical Center for treatment. Members of the Goldsboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, to include Investigators and Crime Scene Personnel, were sent to the scene to initiate an investigation into the incident.
On June 17, as a result of the continued investigation into this incident, warrants were secured on Tyrik Deontre Joyner. At approximately 3:30 p.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the area of U.S. 117 S. and W. Ash Street. Mr. Joyner was taken into custody without incident. Mr. Joyner was taken to the Wayne County Magistrate’s Office where he was served with his warrants. He received a $2,750,000 secured bond. His first appearance was 06/20/2022 at 1:30 p.m. in District Court.

6/28/22 UPDATE: On June 24, as a result of the ongoing investigation into this incident, juvenile petitions were filed against a 13-year-old male. The Office of Juvenile Justice received the petitions and sought a secure custody order, which was granted by the Court. On June 27, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the juvenile male turned himself in to investigators at the Goldsboro Police Department and was transported to secure custody at Pitt Regional Juvenile Detention Center. He will have a first appearance in court on June 30.
