On July 3, 2022, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers from the Goldsboro Police Department’s Uniformed Patrol “B” Shift responded to Wayne UNC Health Care in reference to a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle. The victim was subsequently identified as Stephon Hayes, 30, of Edgerton Street. The victim was flown to Vidant Medical Center for further treatment of his injuries. 

Investigators with the Goldsboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and the Crime Scene Unit responded to assume the investigation.
