Deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to 164 Wharton Ln, Goldsboro, in reference to a domestic disturbance. The victim advised dispatch that she had just been shot at by her boyfriend, who was later identified as the defendant, 43-year-old Marvin Wendell Gibbs. The victim told deputies that she was seated in her car when the defendant fired one shot that went through her vehicle’s window, nearly striking her. The victim fled the area in her vehicle while notifying law enforcement.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division responded to the victim’s location and began investigating. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was called to the area after deputies learned that the defendant was possibly armed and still in the residence. A search warrant was obtained on the home at 164 Wharton Lane, as well as arrest warrants for the defendant.
Deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team executed the search warrant on the residence in search of the defendant. Once inside the residence, deputies were unable to locate the defendant; however, he was found a short while later hiding in a wooded area behind the house.
The defendant was arrested without incident and transported to the Wayne County Magistrate’s office, where he received a secured bond and was left in the custody of the Wayne County Detention Center.
