Friday morning firefighters from Dudley, Indian Springs, and Arrington Volunteer Fire Departments
along with Wayne County EMS station 9 responded to a working house fire in the 1000 block of Sleepy Creek Road. Smoke from the structure could be seen over the treetops as the first fire units arrived on the scene.
The fast action of the firefighters managed to gain entry through the back door near the window where the fire had broken out and was beginning to spread along the upper edge of the roof over the
window. A second attack line was made through the front door of the home. The firefighters after gaining entrance managed to quickly contain the fire to several rooms of the structure.
The family managed to get out of the home before the arrival of the units. Fire officials on the
scene believe the fire started in the laundry room and was spreading into the kitchen area. The power company was called in to cut the power going to the house. Firefighters remained on the scene for
several hours.
