Update

The body found on the side of Salem Church Road on January 15th, 2023, has been identified as 23-year-old Crystal Haithcock from Goldsboro. The body was discovered by a passerby who was driving down Salem Church Road at around 1:50 pm on Sunday. Sheriff’s Office Detectives found no signs of foul play at the scene, and at this time, the cause of death is undetermined. The investigation is still ongoing as Detectives continue to follow up on leads. Previous Story

On January 15, 2023, at approximately 1:50 pm, a passerby called Wayne County 911 and reported seeing a body located on the side of the road near 3651 Salem Church Road, Goldsboro, NC. Wayne County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area and found a white female lying on the ground. Wayne County EMS responded to the scene and declared the female deceased.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene and began their investigation. The body of the deceased was transported to Wayne UNC Healthcare to be later transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy. The victim’s identity will be withheld pending contact with the next of kin.

This investigation is in the early stages at this time, and there is currently no known cause of death. The Sheriff’s Office will release additional information as it becomes available.
