Goldsboro Police Department while on patrol in the 800 block of Day Circle Monday attempted to make contact with Zy’Marquis Jones in reference to several outstanding orders for his arrest. After fleeing on foot Jones pulled out a concealed firearm from his waistband and began running. Mr. Jones proceeded to throw the firearm over a fence into the Seymour Homes neighborhood and jumped the fence near where the firearm was thrown. Goldsboro Police quickly apprehended the suspect near the intersection of Meyers Avenue and Seymour Drive.
While performing a records check of the firearm that Mr. Jones possessed, it was learned that the firearm was stolen from Goldsboro. Jones has previous felonious convictions for Common Law Robbery (F) and Possession of a Stolen Firearm (F) therefore, Mr. Jones is unable to possess firearms. Mr. Jones was transported to the magistrate’s office where he was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (F), Possession of a Stolen Firearm (F), Carrying a Concealed Gun (M), and Resisting a Public Officer (M). Mr. Jones was also served his outstanding orders for his arrest for Interfering with an Electronic Monitoring Device (F), Resisting Public Officer (M), and Assault on a Child under 12 (M). Mr. Jones was also determined to be an absconder from NC Probation and Parole. Mr. Jones was held at the Wayne County Jail on a $50,000 secured bond.
