On the morning of June 4, 2023, at approximately 5:47 a.m., the Goldsboro Police Department received a distressing call regarding a shooting incident in the 200 block of Alpha Court. Upon arrival, officers discovered Clarence Jerome Smith, a 39-year-old resident of Goldsboro, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. Smith was immediately transported to UNC Health Wayne for medical attention and subsequently airlifted to ECU Health in Greenville for further treatment. As of now, Mr. Smith remains in critical condition.

The Goldsboro Police Department’s Investigative Services Bureau, in collaboration with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, promptly initiated an investigation. However, as the investigation is still in its early stages, no further details can be disclosed at this time.
