June 3, 2023, 79, La Grange –

Dorothy Cruse Sutton peacefully departed this life and joyously entered her eternal reward on Saturday, June 3, 2023. She was born in Wayne County to the late Joseph Cruse and Mattie Nance Cruse on January 4, 1944. In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Phillip “Phil” Sutton, brothers, William and Milton Cruse, and sisters, Beulah Stroud, Landora Lancaster, Peggy Tyson, and Alease Mozingo.

Dot was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a well-known and loved member of the community and a dedicated member of La Grange United Methodist Church. Dot was a loyal employee of Howell’s Childcare and RHA Services for 23 years. She participated in the American Business Women’s Association for many years. Working in her yard was Dot’s means of relaxing. She took pride in the appearance and presentation of her yard.

With a sweet spirit and outgoing personality, Dot never met a stranger. Wherever she went, she was sure to leave with a new friend. It was impossible not to love her kind smile and welcoming presence. She loved unconditionally and was truly loved by all in return. She will be terribly missed by her family, friends, coworkers, and community.

A service of love and remembrance will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 4 p.m. in the chapel at Rouse Funeral Home. Friends will be received for a time of visitation immediately following the service. Committal will take place at Fairview Cemetery on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 11 a.m.

Dot is survived by her sons, Stephen Sutton and Brent Sutton and wife, Michelle; grandchildren, Ty Sutton, Kayla Sutton (Liz), Wil Sutton (Bethany); great-grandchild, Huff Sutton; and sisters, Evelyn Ham, and Jessie Combs; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the wonderful care given by UNC-Chapel Hill Hospital and Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
