Marie Thigpen Malpass, 87, a resident of the Goldsboro area, passed away Friday, June 23, 2023, at her home.

Mrs. Malpass was a native of the Scott’s Store community near Mount Olive.  She was a graduate of the B. F. Grady High School and furthered her studies at Crumpler Business School.  She had been employed in the business office at Cherry Hospital, had worked in a local attorney’s office, and at Wayne County Dept. of Social Services from which she retired as a departmental supervisor.  She was of the Mormon faith.

Surviving family includes a granddaughter, Sierra Marie Malpass, and several great-grandchildren; a sister, Annie Lois Thigpen Sutton of Scott’s Store community; two nephews, Donald Sutton and wife, Jill, of Scott’s Store, and Thomas Sutton and wife, Ketia, of Goldsboro; two nieces, Kathleen “Winnie” Haddock and husband, Walter, of Hugo, and Judy Leonard of Kenansville; and several great-nieces and great-nephews, and their families.

She was preceded in death by her only son, Ronald Ray “Ronnie” Malpass; a grandson, Ronald Ray “Ron” Malpass II; her parents, Roland and Viola Carter Thigpen; and a brother, Jack Thigpen.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, June 27, at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive beginning at 6 p.m. with funeral services following at 7 p.m.  Officiating will be Brother Joseph Scott.    Committal services will be Wednesday, June 28, at 2 p.m. at the Roland Thigpen Family Cemetery (455 Carter-Thigpen Road, Mount Olive, NC).
