BUIES CREEK – Wayne County Post 11 opened its 11th trip to the North Carolina American Legion state tournament with a 4-1 win over top-ranked Rowan County Post 342 on Tuesday evening.
Post 11 (31-6) faces Fuquay-Varina Post 116 at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the double-elimination tournament. Fuquay defeated Cherryville Post 100 3-1 on Tuesday night.
Wednesday’s other games include Cleveland County versus Wilmington at 10 a.m. in an elimination game. Rowan County and Cherryville meet at 1 p.m. in an elimination game.
Pitt County and High Point play at 4 p.m. in a winner’s bracket game.
The tournament concludes on Saturday, with the winner advancing to the Southeast Regional in Asheboro.
