James Clinton Pender

James Clinton Pender, 79, passed away Saturday at Duke University Hospital in Durham. He is the son of the late Silas and Katie Ellis Pender and the husband of Janice Carolyn Powell Pender. He was a retired purchasing agent for the city of Goldsboro. He had attended Pineview Baptist Church. A member of Harmony Masonic Lodge #340, Mr. Pender was a member of the York Rite Body, Raleigh Scottish Rite Body, Wayne Shrine Club, Sudan Temple Shriner, and a past member of the Wilson Moose Lodge. He was a graduate of Pikeville Highschool in 1961 as well as U.N.C. Chapel Hill in 1966. He enjoyed going fishing, reading a good book, learning about history and sharing it with his grandchildren, Music from the ’50s and ’60s, especially Elvis or Willie Nelson, and collecting records, CDs, or old music equipment. He also enjoyed watching Seinfeld, Everyone Loves Raymond, and the PBS channel. He had an identic memory and was great at crossword puzzles.  

A service of love and remembrance will be held Sunday, August 20, 2023, in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home at 2:00 P.M. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. prior to the service. Committal services will be held with masonic rites at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery following the service.

In addition, his wife, Mr. Pender is survived by a stepson, Michael Powell and wife, Shannon of Huntsville, Al; grandchildren, Michael Martinez and wife, Brittney, Christopher Powell, Jonathon Powell, Miranda Medlyn and husband, Jay; great-grandchildren, Tristan and Hayden; stepdaughter, Michelle Woodard, and husband, Woody of Goldsboro; nephew Raymond Pender; cousin, Hazel Smith of Goldsboro; great niece Lisa Yelverton Driver; many more cousins, and fur babies, Tinkerbell, Pumpkin, Whiskers, and Petey.

Mr. Pender was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Bartlett Pender, and his brothers, Silas, Raymond, and Daniel Pender.

Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to the Shriner’s Crippled Children Transportation Fund.
