C. Jackson “Jack” Elrod, 90, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Countryside Village. Born in Etowah County, Alabama on March 14, 1933, he was the son of the late Leonard and Mary Nell Harris Elrod.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Thompson Elrod; daughter, Betty Dale Elrod; son, Clarence Jackson Elrod, Jr.; brothers, William T. Crawford, Melbourne Crawford, Robert C. Crawford, and Jesse B. Crawford; sisters, Helen Lanning, Mary Owensby, and Mamie Pirkle.
Jack is survived by his brothers, Dwight D. Crawford and Phillip Crawford; sister, Ellen Goode; and several nieces and nephews he loved dearly.
Jack proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years. He served in the Korean War from 1950-1951 and in the Vietnam War from 1968-1968.
Jack was a member and past master of Wayne Masonic Lodge #112 and a member of the Sudan Shrine Temple in New Bern. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite in New Bern and a 32nd Degree member of the Knight Commander of the Court of Honor.
When his health allowed, Jack attended the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Chapel.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023, at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Andy Stovall officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
