Douglas Wayne Davis, 76, was freed from the cares of this life on Friday, September 1, 2023. He was born in Wilson County to the late James Daniel Davis and Genevieve Sasser Davis on March 7, 1947.
Wayne was a proud graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School. He was drafted into the US Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War until he was severely wounded. Wayne spent the following nine months in a Valley Forge, PA hospital. For his service, he was awarded many honors including a Meritorious Service Medal and a Purple Heart. He was a member and officer of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and the Veterans’ Service Commission.
Wayne was an avid fisherman and he also enjoyed hunting – quail in particular. He owned a rod and reel repair shop in Carrollton until he was hired at the Carroll Electric Cooperative where he was in charge of inventory and mapping all of the rural electric lines. He retired from Carroll Electric in Carrollton, Ohio.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Mark Whitfield officiating. The interment will be in the Hastings Family Cemetery.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Diane Whitley-Davis; daughter, Mindy Domer and husband, Brian; son, Jeremy Wayne Davis and wife, Tori; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Olan Domer; Hunter, Skyler and Remington Davis; brother, Leon Davis and wife, Willette; niece, Amy D. Harrison and husband, Doug and their children, Davis, Dylan and Ainsley Harrison; and nephew, Ashley Davis and wife, Tabby and daughter, Harper Faulk. He is also survived by his step-daughters and their families, Javita Henderson and husband, Ron, and Shannon Evans and husband, Jay; and grandchildren, Damian and wife, Mia, Whitley Nicole, Darius Henderson; Shiane and Carli Rae Evans.
