Mark Harold Whitfield, 69, passed away Sunday evening while being cared for at Autumn Village in Beulaville, NC. He is survived by his two sisters; Wendy W. Hardison and husband William of Mount Olive, and Barbara W. Dowd and husband David of Anderson, SC; three nieces, Sara Vanderbloemen and husband Stephen, Beth Puckett and husband Stephen, and Katie Mosley and husband Alex, and other grand nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his parents Harold Franklin Whitfield and Lillie Mae Whisnante.

Mark was born and raised in the Mount Olive community, and made a career at Bay Valley Foods where he worked as a Warehouse operator. He was also an avid Duke Basketball fan. Due to his love of Duke Basketball, the family has requested those in attendance to wear their favorite collegiate wear in memory of Mark. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, September 7, at eleven o’clock in the morning in the Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Michael L. “Mickey” Whitfield will officiate the service and the family will receive friends immediately following.
