Fourth Annual Field of Honor Opens

The Rotary Club of Goldsboro’s Fourth Annual Field of Honor opened on Sept. 14 with a ceremony on the front lawn of Wayne Community College.

The event featured remarks by Col. Steven Bofferding, vice commander of the Fourth Fighter Wing at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Club President Duffy Fleming, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard, WCC Music Instructor Jonathan Saeger, and WCC Vice President Brandon Jenkins also participated.

The array of United States flags celebrates hundreds of individuals whose lives honored the flag. Each flag bears a tag with the name of the person it recognizes and the donor.

In addition to flag donors, the project was made possible by many sponsors. Proceeds of the annual event support charitable programs of Rotary International and the Goldsboro Club.

The display is open to the public from dawn to dusk through Nov. 16. A closing ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on that day.
