On Sept. 18 at approximately 9:46 a.m., Goldsboro Fire Department Engines 1, 2 and 3, Tower 1, and Battalion 1 were dispatched to a structure fire at 301 S. Virginia St. Units arrived to find smoke and fire showing.
Goldsboro Fire Department crews pulled a line and initiated an interior attack. A fourth engine (Engine 5) was dispatched to assist with firefighting efforts. Command Staff personnel also responded to assist with the scene.
A total of five apparatus, seven Command Staff personnel, and Wayne County EMS responded to the call. Mar-Mac, El-Roy, and Belfast VFDs were on stand-by to assist with other calls in the city. Twenty-three Goldsboro firefighters responded. The fire was knocked down in less than 20 minutes and under control in approximately 30 minutes.
Three people were displaced and are being assisted by the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross. No civilian injuries were reported, and one firefighter sustained minor injuries from falling debris. The firefighter did not require treatment or transport.
After investigation, the fire was determined to be accidental due to an electrical issue.
